Behind the Artwork

Made during a writing residency at Château Mauriac, the former home of French writer François Mauriac, in the countryside near Bordeaux. The isolation was hard; Noémie was producing ten to thirty drawings a day just to get through it. This piece is her first real experiment with transparency and superposition, layering markers with Posca pen and pencil to explore something close to the multiplicity of the self, the idea of “killing the mother” as a metaphor for breaking free of inherited structure.
