Tawlé

The most emotionally loaded piece she's made. In the aftermath of the 2020 Beirut explosion, and a devastating year of pandemic loss on top of it, Noémie had lost most of her work and was in serious financial precarity. A group of friends organized a fundraiser for Lebanon and asked her to contribute a piece, with proceeds split between the cause and the artist herself. She chose to draw a shared table, hands and food, the one thing she felt genuinely united Lebanese people no matter their background. She was deliberate about every detail: a watch, a bracelet, a coat of nail polish, chosen precisely because they could belong to anyone, anywhere in the country, from any background. “I wanted people to understand these are Lebanese hands, but not from where, exactly. Not which class, not which religion, not which city.”
