Painted during a period when Nay felt she needed to consume something, a glass of whiskey, specifically, before she could create anything at all. The man in the piece believes the tree inside him is dead, and his snow globe is missing its snow, incomplete, with the only thing that could fill it sitting just outside him, in a glass. “He's just reminiscing,” she says, “on whether or not he's going to drink it, to become full, to become the thing he was actually meant to be.”

À propos de l'artiste
Nay Azar
Nay Azar was born in Lebanon and now lives and works in Vancouver. She has drawn since childhood and took her first class as a teenager. A screenwriter and tango dancer as well as a painter, she begins with an idea or a feeling and looks for the form that can carry it. In her paintings that form is often a symbol and her work returns to roots, containment, transformation, and the moment something is about to change. Each piece is an attempt to make an invisible inner state something you can stand in front of and recognize.
